About Windsor Charter Academy

Mission Statement

Windsor Charter Academy provides a challenging academic program based on the Core Knowledge curriculum that promotes academic excellence, character development and enthusiasm for life long learning. The mission of the school is to develop in each child the love of learning, the ability to engage in critical thinking and to demonstrate mastery of the academic building blocks necessary for a successful future.

Philosophy

Education is the great equalizer in that all children will be introduced to and master; the same core of knowledge that builds sequentially year by year (E.D. Hirsch, Core Knowledge curriculum). Once mastery has occurred, students are encouraged to progress at their instructional levels. Children's response to citizenship is enhanced by holding them accountable for both their behavior and their academic growth. Expanded choices in education should not be limited to those who have the financial resources and prerogative to support private schools. The greatest challenge to any democracy is to provide for those in the minority; in this case, those who want something different in education.

Parents and teachers must work together when it comes to education. Having accepted the academic objectives and philosophy of the school, the teacher needs to be able to cooperate with other faculty members in order to ensure a continuous progression of learning while creating a positive learning environment. Also, having accepted the academic objectives and philosophy of the school, the parent needs to support the faculty by staying involved in their children's education. Children can and should be held accountable for their own school work and behavior, with the support of their teachers and parents.

WCA is a school of choice, innovation, and diversity in public education.

  • that has an academically rigorous, structured, and sequential curriculum that will enhance children’s education.
  • that will make learning opportunities greater through class size restrictions (24 students maximum) and the use of teacher aides in each class.
  • where parents choose the board, and are able to provide inputs on important issues and decisions.
  • that believes character education is extremely important.
  • where uniforms will be worn. We believe this will enhance the learning environment of the school.
  • with a discipline contract that will be signed at the beginning of the year by all students, parents and teachers. We believe this will enhance the learning environment of the school.
  • that administers nationally standardized tests and conducts in-depth parent-teacher conferences throughout the school year.
  • where meaningful parental contributions of time and talents are an integral part of the program.
  • that teaches a foreign language in the elementary grades.

WCA does not discriminate on the basis of disability, age, or race.

Dress Code Information

Most stores carry uniforms beginning in July, however selection is usually limited to the basics, navy and white.  And when they are sold out, they wont carry them again until the following summer.  The following stores have been know to carry uniforms in the past and are located in Northern Colorado.

Two Dress Code Specific catalogues (K-5 and 6-8) have been provided from French Toast which list only those items approved by the dress code committee. These catalogues are available free of charge to any family interested.  You do not have to purchase through French Toast, they are simply a guideline to help families when they are purchasing uniforms through other stores.  Please email Jennifer Wildman at wildfamilyfun@msn.com if you would like a catalogue.

The following information is provided for those families interested in purchasing uniforms through French Toast:

Booklets containing all approved clothing items for WCA students in grades K-5 and 6-8 are now available.  In addition, you will also find a Fitting Guide and Order form on the back page.

French Toast has provided these booklets, along with shipping coupons to make the uniform buying process easier all year long.  In addition, French Toast will help support our school with cash back “rewards” for items purchased.

Jennifer Wildman and Madonna Molinario have begun taking uniform orders for the Fall 09 year.  Our goal is to make a $1000 order so that WCA will receive 10% back.  Once school begins, we will be placing uniform orders once a month.  In order to save you an additional sales tax, checks need to be made out to JENNIFER WILDMAN; cash is also accepted.  Please fill out the attached order form and return it to the front office along with your payment.  Orders will be collected once a month.  When orders are delivered, they will be available for pick up at WCA.

Monies collected from French Toast “rewards” will be used for scholarships for those students who cannot afford uniforms.

Parents/Guardians can also make individual purchases through French Toast at www.frenchtoast.com any time of year and the school will receive 5% back from each order.  Please use code QS47ENC.
